On a Wing Festival, This Saturday, April 5th at Central Park!

With spring in the air, isn't it time you visited Central Park again? What better time than this Saturday, April 5th!

Just wanted to remind you that the On a Wing Family Festival is happening at Belvedere Castle (79th St and mid-park) in Central Park this upcoming Saturday, April 5th between noon and 3 pm. The On a Wing series, co-presented by the Central Park Conservancy and Urban Park Rangers, celebrates birds in Central Park through art, music, special lectures and family events at Belvedere Castle.

I will be giving a talk and presenting my art and illustrations of birds at this event at approximately 1 pm. But you should come earlier than that to catch Ranger Rob Mastrianni, who will present Native American music and dance at noon. He will also present a lecture on birds of prey, following my talk. There is also a puppet show theater put on by the rangers as well as arts and crafts for the kids.

Directions:
It is easy to get lost in the park, and Belvedere Castle sits at about 79th St in the middle of the Central Park on Turtle Pond.

From the east, take the 6 train to 77th St station at Lexington. Walk west towards the park 3 blocks and enter the park near 79th street. Walk up the hill, cross the drive (watch for bicyclists!) and at the other side, take the right fork briefly then take the left fork that goes towards Belvedere Castle (there will be a sign pointing the way). If you head towards the Poland statue, you're heading the wrong way.

From the west, take the B or C train to 81st St station/American Museum of Natural History at Central Park West. Cross the street to the park and enter at 81st entrance. Walk straight, cross the drive (watch for bicyclists!) and head up the hill through Shakespeare's Garden towards the castle (there will be signs pointing the way).

Please feel free to pass this announcement around to those who may be interested in the intersection of art, expression and our natural world. I hope you can make it and I look forward to seeing you!

Take care and thank you much!
Anne

Schedule of Events:

12:00 p.m.: Eagle Dancing on the Belvedere Castle Plaza
Ranger Rob Mastrianni sounds as beautiful as a bird's song when he plays nature-inspired music to the rhythm of a traditional Native American eagle dance in this live performance. Learn about the unique instruments he plays and the feathery muses behind his art in this special performance.

1:00 p.m.: "Birds: An Illustrator's View" in the Belvedere Castle Discovery Room
Explore the world of nature through the eyes of an artist. In this presentation, Anne Yen shares her original illustrations of wildlife and discusses how creating art fosters and renews our fascination with nature.
